Parañaque City Mayor Eric Olivarez performed the role of Pontius Pilate in a “Senakulo” held at the Liwasang San Dionisio on Wednesday, April 5.
The theatrical “Senakulo,” or the re-enactment of Jesus Christ’s passion and death, was presented by the San Dioniso Historical and Cultural Society, in cooperation with the Parañaque Cultural Historical and Tourism Promotions Division.
The mayor said he was “ecited and happy” to join the “Senakul” after it was halted for almost two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Olivarez said he played an important role in the Senakulo as Pontius Pilate who sentenced Jesus to death.
He said the Parañaque Cultural Historical and Tourism Promotions Division also prepared activities for residents in observance of Holy Week.
The mayor said the Cultural Historical and Tourism Promotions Division listed seven historical churches in the city where the faithful can visit for the Visita Iglesia.
These include the Parañaque Cathedral known as the Parish of St. Andrew located along Barangay La Huerta; Baclaran Church in Barangay Baclaran which is the most visited church by devotees of Our Lady of Perpetual Help every Wednesday; San Dionisio Chapel in Barangay San Dionisio; San Nicolas de Tolentino Chapel in Barangay La Huerta; Santa Monica Chapel in Don Galo; National Shrine, Mary Help of Christians located at Don Bosco in Better Living Subdivision; and Santa Rita de Cascia Parish in Barangay Baclaran.
