MIAA logs 583,000 passengers on first wave of Lenten exodus, high airline on-time performance recorded
The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has recorded over 583,000 passengers from April 1 to 5 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The good news part, according to MIAA General Manager Cesar Chiong, is that the Airline On-Time-Performance (OTP) has shown improvement despite the high volume of passenger traffic for both domestic and international flights for the Holy Week break.
Citing their data, Chiong said their OTP rating on April 1 was at 70.21 percent; 86.60 percent for April 2; 91.67 percent for April 3; 87.07 percent for April 4; and 81.53 percent for April 5.
Airline OTP is measured by on time departing flights, with aircraft arrival at the gate under 15 minutes of the scheduled arrival time as a major factor.
“Our high OTP ratings indicate that flights depart from and arrive at NAIA on time. This demonstrates that we are able to prevent passenger crowding at the airport due to the continuous dispatch, departure, and arrival of flights,” said Chiong.
He said passenger queuing also has become manageable.
“This is the result of our collaboration with the airlines, ground handlers, and the various government agencies working at NAIA, such as the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the Office for Transportation Security (OTS), among others,” he added.
Chiong said they anticipates a surge of arriving passengers on Easter Sunday and Monday, April 10.
The MIAA is expecting around 1.2 million passengers at NAIA over the long Lenten break.
