Imee seeks extension of the corporate life of PADC to another 50 years
Senator Imee Marcos has sought to extend the corporate life of the Philippine Aerospace Development Corporation (PADC) for another 50 years.
The extension of the corporate life of PADC was sought in Senate Bill 2033 authored by the lady lawmaker.
Senator Marcos’ late father, President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr., signed Presidential Decree No. 286, authorizing the creation of a Philippine Aerospace Development Corporation (PADC) as the premier service organization of the aerospace and aviation industry in the country in 1973.
PADC was established for self-reliance, national security and technology transfer.
The corporate life of PADC is set to expire on September 5, 2023.
"In order to maximize the national unity of aviation and aerospace industry and address the Impending expiration of PADCs corporate life, this measure seeks to amend Section 1 of Presidential Decree No. 286 to give the Philippine Aerospace Development Corporation an additional 50 years of corporate life," Marcos said.
In 1975, PD 286 was restructured and amended by Presidential Decree 696 for the purposes of undertaking all manner of activity, business, or development projects to establish a reliable aviation and aerospace industry. It was further amended by PD 841 on 11 December 1975 and by Executive Order (EO) 904 on July 28, 1983 by modifying the composition of the Board of Directors and the powers to designate alternates and representatives.
On 15 March 2019, President Duterte signed EO 78 by virtue of which the administrative supervision of PADC was transferred from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to the Department of National Defense (DND)
PADC has envisioned their organization to be capable of efficiently performing functions that will yield towards the alignment of the corporation per its mandate, provision of a more competitive and viable Philippine aviation and aerospace industry to both the public and private sectors, promotion of growth and development for the Philippine aviation and aerospace industry, proper regulation of aircraft, spacecraft, missiles, avionics, major flight-vehicle subsystems and importation of aircraft parts, among others.
To date, among its achievements are as follows: the development of a single prototype light aircraft named as PADC Defiant 300, a prototype helicopter labelled as PADC Hummingbird, and the assembly of forty-four (44) BO-105 helicopters, sixty-seven (67) BN Islander aircrafts, eighteen (18) SF 260 TP single-engine turbo prop trainer, six (6) Lancaster ES, and two (2) Lancaster IV.
A maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility for various aircraft engines used by the Philippine Air Force (PAF) has also been created by PADC.
