The Philippine women’s football team cruised to a statement 4-0 victory over Pakistan to open its campaign in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in a rousing fashion at Hisor Central Stadium in Tajikistan on Wednesday, April 5.

The Filipinas went off to a blistering start as Hali Long, Sarina Bolden and Eva Madarang all found the back of the net in the first half before the returning Chandler McDaniels put on the finishing touches in the rout that awarded them full three points in the standings. It was Long who started the onslaught for the Filipino booters, scoring on a header in the 22nd minute before Bolden doubled the count with her own header at the 25th minute mark. The Filipinas kept the pace with their quick attacks as Madarang drilled a screamer from outside the box at the half-hour mark to give her team a commanding 3-0 lead. They never looked back from there as McDaniels announced her return from an ACL injury with the team’s insurance goal just minutes before the second-half stoppage time. The commanding debut should be a huge confidence booster for the charges of head coach Allen Stajcic as they need to top Group E to advance to the next round of the qualifiers. Up next for the Filipinas are Tajikistan on Saturday, April 8, before wrapping up their schedule with a clash against Hong Kong on April 11.
