FB shuts down LTO-7 page for 'going vs community standards'

CEBU CITY – The regional director of the Land Transportation Office-Central Visayas (LTO-7) cried foul over the unpublishing of the agency’s Facebook page.
THE Facebook page of the Land Transportation Office-Central Visayas was unpublished after it allegedly ‘went against community standards.’ Victor Emmanuel Caindec said he has formally written Facebook Philippines to seek clarification why the “LTO Region VII” Facebook page was unpublished starting on Wednesday, April 5, after it “went against community standards.” “It behooves us in what action or content that LTO-7 published that went against Facebook's ‘community standards,’ but I, as Regional Director of LTO-7, can confidently say that we have placed much effort to provide our community, which includes the citizens and taxpayers of Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor provinces, with a platform for transparency and good governance,” Caindec said. The page was managed by LTO personnel designated officially as Digital Media Public Assistance Officers. Caindec said the page had gained over 100,000 followers after it was created six years ago. He said the page has been very essential in delivering “timely and relevant content on LTO services, regulations, and activities.” The page also came in handy at the height of the pandemic, said Caindec. “In the critical time of Covid, LTO-7 connected with our clients through this Facebook page and allowed the agency to continue to be a responsive government office even during the hard and difficult lockdown period,” said Caindec. The unpublishing of the page was also untimely as LTO-7 wants the public to be fully informed during the Holy Week where an influx of passengers is expected. “I have formally written Facebook Philippines to address the matter, but I hope this public statement will somehow reach Facebook administrators and help them realize that while they own the platform, their continued presence in this country also means a social responsibility to respect institutions of government that have used their platform for public transparency and service,” Caindec said.
