CAMP RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – Police Regional Office-13 chief Police Brig. Gen. Pablo G. Labra II was named “Datu Makalunhaw” which means “freer and savior from oppression” by chieftains and sectoral datus from different tribes in the Caraga region in a ceremony at the PRO-13 headquarters here on Tuesday, April 4.
The Indigenous Peoples (IP) leaders said they collectively decided to adopt the Caraga police chief as Datu Makalunhaw in recognition of his earnest desire and relentless efforts in promoting the welfare of tribal communities, particularly in highland communities, while intensifying the peace efforts in the five provinces and six cities in Caraga.
Labra thanked them for the recognition.
"I am humbled and honored to have been given such recognition and appreciation by the different tribes in the region,” Labra said.
“Rest assured, I can reciprocate your trust and confidence by giving my best service to the Caraganons, especially to our IP," he added.
He also thanked the IPs for serving as partners of PRO-13 in peace-building efforts and protecting the rights of the people.
The event coincided with the courtesy call of the Mindanao Indigenous People Cultural Leaders and Mindanao Indigenous People Youth Organization at the PRO-13 headquarters which was also graced by Director Reynaldo A. Dingal from the Office on Empowerment and Human Rights of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP).
The awarding of Labra was witnessed by other high-ranking Caraga police officers and THE sectoral leaders and chieftains of the Banwaon, Higaonon, Mamanwa, Mandayo, Manobo, and Talaandig tribes.
The IPs also adopted the chief of the Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office (PPO), Agusan del Norte PPO, Agusan del Sur PPO, and Surigao del Sur PPO.
