Victims were Hindang residents identified as Joselito Peñaranda, 24, and Jessielo Bisnar, 38. The driver, Ben Remitera Jr., alleged that he suddenly fell asleep upon reaching the area. His vehicle swerved to the left and hit three individuals fetching water. The van's 20 passengers, including a seven-month-old baby, sustained minor injuries and were extricated out of the vehicle with the help of residents. Edward Almeda, 43, said he and the two victims were fetching water from the barangay water faucet when the van suddenly hit them. The two victims died on the spot while Almeda was thrown to the grassy portion. Responders saw the van on its side while the body of Peñaranda was found on a drainage canal. The vehicle was bound for Mindanao from Metro Manila carrying passengers spending the Holy Week in the provinces.
