Valenzuela LGU gives financial aid to families of Barangay Ugong fire victims


The Valenzuela City government has provided financial assistance to the bereaved families of four men who died in the explosion and fire incident in a printing press in Barangay Ugong in the city on Tuesday afternoon, April 4. 

The city government distributed P30,000 cash to the each of families of the victims. 

Each family also received P10,000 from the Office of the Senator Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian and P20,000 from Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rexlon “Rex” Gatchalian.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) identified the victims as Jose Binibini, 49; Roderick Candilado; 39; Yusof Macasalong, 36; and Wilson Cesista, 32, all employees of the said company.

It said that the fire on La Mesa Street in Barangay Ugong was raised to first alarm at around 3:57 p.m. after a machine inside the building suddenly exploded.

The blaze was declared under control at around 4:20 p.m. and was extinguished at about 4:35 p.m.

The cost of damage to property is yet to be determined by authorities. 

Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian immediately went to the area after the incident to conduct an inspection. 

He also expressed condolences to the families of the deceased victims.
