In observance of the religious activities and travelers during this Holy Week, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has ordered public telecommunications entities (PTEs) to boost broadband connectivity. NTC Memorandum Order No. 003-04-2023 issued April 4, 2023 by Commissioner Atty. Ella Blanca B. Lopez and Deputy Commissioner Atty. John Paulo V. Salvahan noted that having fast and reliable internet broadband connectivity is “vital to religious and Holy Week break travelers.” With that, NTC ordered PTEs to make available and help ensure that user experience is maximized in place with the populace historically converge during the Holy Week celebration. PTEs are ordered to ensure that telecommunication services with increased and sufficient network capacity are available 24/7 in areas where people converge such as religious places. PTEs must also assign sufficient number of technical personnel to attend to any disruption of service. Any disruption of service shall not exceed accumulated one hour from April 6-10, 2023 and that repair works are done and services must be restored immediately by strategically locating spare parts, replacement equipment, devices and materials. Likewise, PTEs must ensure that complaints are attended properly and addressed swiftly by sufficiently manning their hotlines which receive complaints, and for them to implement measures necessary to make the stay of religious travelers enjoyable and memorable.
