CEBU CITY – The management of the Capitol-run north and south bus terminals expressed readiness for the influx of passengers for the observance of Holy Week and the upcoming long weekend.

Carmen Quijano, general manager of the two major terminals, said they are expecting 40,000 to 50,000 passengers to pass through the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) alone. Quijano assured that over 500 buses will be deployed in the south-bound route and 300 for the north-bound route to accommodate the thousands of passengers who will travel to their respective destinations for the Holy Week. Local government officials, led by Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia, inspected the CSBT on Wednesday, April 5. Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, chief of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas, Engr. Eduardo Montealto Jr., director of the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board-Central Visayas, and Victor Caindec, director of Land Transportation Office-Central Visayas, were among those who inspected the terminal. Montealto said at least 108 buses have been granted special permits to ensure that there would be enough buses for the south- and north-bound routes. Garcia has requested Montealto to issue additional special permits to more buses as she is anticipating that the post-pandemic passenger influx could be greater than the recorded pre-pandemic figures. Acting on the governor’s request, Montealto said the LTFRB-7 immediately issued special permits to 15 more tourist buses. Aberin said no security threats for the Holy Week have been monitored but police in the region have been placed on heightened alert status. He said that in Cebu province, more than 3,000 police personnel have been deployed to secure those who will be traveling to their respective provinces. “We are advising the public to be alert as pickpockets and swindlers may take advantage of the situation,” Aberin said.
