PH logs 1,491new COVID cases

The Philippines logged below 2,000 new COVID-19 cases after the Department of Health (DoH) reported 1,491 new infections Saturday, pushing the country’s total to 458,044.

The DoH reported 2,122 new cases last Friday, the first time this month that the country had  above 2,000 new daily cases.

Quezon City had the most number of new with 129, followed by Rizal with 102, Benguet with 81, Davao City with 75, and Laguna with 54.

There were 436 new recoveries and 36 additional deaths, bringing the total number of survivors to 421,086 and the  death count to 8,911.

There are 28,047 active cases – 83.4 percent have mild symptoms, 8.8 percent are asymptomatic, 4.9 percent are in critical condition, 2.5 percent have severe symptoms, while 0.30 percent in moderate condition. 

The DoH noted that nine duplicates were removed from the total case count. Seven of these were recovered cases.

“Moreover, nine cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths,” the DoH added. 

“Hindi po porke magkakaroon na ng bakuna ay kailangan na tayong mag-relax. Kailangan maintindihan ng ating mga kababayan that even meron na tayong bakuna ay kailangan pa rin ipagpatuloy ang minimum public health standards (It is not because there will be a vaccine – we  will now afford to relax. Our countrymen need to understand that even if we have vaccines, we still need to follow the minimum public health standards),” said DoH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire. 

“Ang bakuna po ay isa lang sa mga strategies na puwede natin magamit para tumigil ang (pagkalat) ng impeksyon. Pero kailangan tuloy-tuloy pa rin po ang pag-comply sa minimum public health standards (Vaccination is just one of the strategies we can use to stop the (spread) of infection. We still need to continue to comply with the minimum public health standards),” she added.
