'Odette' death toll now at 389; agri-infra damage at P22B – NDRRMC

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) bared that 11 more people have died as typhoon “Odette” wreaked havoc in Visayas and Mindanao more than a week ago.

In its latest situational report on Monday, Dec. 27, the NDRRMC said the death toll has now reached 389.

Out of the figure, 52 cases were validated while 337 were undergoing confirmation.

The NDRRMC did not mention where the new fatalities were recorded as it also removed the breakdown of unconfirmed fatalities in its report.

There were also 64 missing persons while 1,146 sustained various injuries, which are both higher compared to Sunday’s data of 60 and 742, respectively.

Meanwhile, the cost of damage to infrastructure now amounted to P16,711,209,182.11 while agricultural losses have reached P5,315,842,606.17.

A total of 79,282.0375 hectares of crops and 1,174,296 livestock and poultry were wiped out by Odette while it also destroyed 506,404 houses and nearly 3,000 units of agricultural infrastructure and equipment.

NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Timbal said that power supply in the affected areas will also likely be fully restored by February 2022.

“That is the likely scenario, it will take until February before we can fully restore the supply,” he said in a radio interview on dzBB Sunday.

Based on the NDRRMC’s data, 284 cities and municipalities experienced power outage and interruption in Mimaropa (Region 4B), Western Visayas (Region 6), Central Visayas (Region 7), Eastern Visayas (Region 8), Zamboanga Peninsula (region 9), Northern Mindanao (Region 10), Davao (Region 11), Caraga (Region 13), and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Out of this number, power supply has already been restored in 154 cities and municipalities, leaving 130 others still in the dark until New Year.
