New LPA forms east of Mindanao

A new low-pressure area formed east of Mindanao Sunday and will likely develop into another tropical depression within 48 hours, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration.

PAGASA estimated the location of the LPA at 920 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur at around 1 p.m.

Should it develop into a tropical depression, it will be given the local name "Ulysses," the third tropical cyclone that could form within the Philippine Area of Responsibility in November.

It could also be the 21st tropical cyclone in the country this year.

PAGASA weather specialist Chris Perez advised the public to continue monitoring this weather disturbance for possible effects on the country's weather conditions in the coming days.

In PAGASA's set of 25 tropical cyclone names for 2020, these names will be used to identify the tropical cyclones that will enter or form within the PAR until the end of the year – “Vicky,” “Warren,” “Yoyong,” and “Zosimo.”

In the event that the number of tropical cyclones within the year exceeds 25, an auxiliary or "reserved" list composed of 10 names will be used – “Alamid,” “Bruno,” “Conching,” “Dolor,” “Ernie,” “Florante,” “Gerardo,” “Hernan,” “Isko,” and “Jerome.”
