CEBU CITY – The Cebu provincial government has moved the implementation of the mandatory wearing of air purifiers for Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) divers and conductors to August 25.
Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia moved the implementation of her order to give bus companies more time to purchase air purifiers.
The order was supposed to take effect last Monday, August 16.
Under the order, PUV drivers and conductors must wear air purifier necklaces during the duration of their trips.
Garcia has issued several directives in a bid to stem the transmission of COVID-19 in the province.
On Tuesday, Garcia issued two Executive Orders (EOs) imposing stricter travel restrictions in the province.
EO 39-A requires drivers, crew of trucks, delivery vans and other similar vehicles entering the province through seaports to present a negative RT-PCR test result within the last 72 hours.
A negative antigen test result taken within the last 72 hours may be presented in lieu of a negative RT-PCR test result.
EO 40 also requires authorized persons outside of residence (APOR) and non-APOR entering he province through airports to present a negative RT-PCR test result within the last 72 hours or a negative RT-PCR test result within the last 72 hours.
Cebu province has the most active COVID-19 cases in Central Visayas.
In the August 16 tally of the Department of Health-Central Visayas, the province’s active cases rose to 5,161 after tallying 351 new cases.
COVID-19 deaths also continued to increase in the province as it recorded 33 new deaths on August 16 for a total of 1,225 deaths.
