Duterte approves ₱1.5 B more to augment calamity funds of LGUs affected by typhoon
An additional P1.5 billion will be released to concerned local government units to support their rehabilitation and recovery following the recent devastation caused by typhoon Ulysses.

President Duterte has approved the fund release to augment the local calamity funds following a report made by Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado during a meeting in Davao City Monday night.
"Ang kailangan ko lang po sa inyo, approval ng release ng (I would need your approval for the release of) 1.5 billion augmentation of local calamity funds to LGUs affected by Typhoon Ulysses," Avisado informed the President during the meeting.
The President immediately agreed to sign the fund request for the typhoon-hit local government units. "If the papers have been prepared already pending my signature, you can release," Duterte said. "I will sign it now, he added.
With the President's approval, Avisado said the Bureau of Treasury could release the funds to the concerned local government units on Tuesday.
The budget chief noted that the government previously released P1.5 billion to the LGUs in Calabarzon (Cavite-Laguna-Batangas-Rizal-Quezon), Mimaropa (Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), and Bicol region after the destruction left by typhoons Quinta and Rolly. He said they have set aside a buffer of P500 million to assist 10 other affected local government units.
"Tuwang-tuwa po sila wala pong nagreklamo kahit isa sa kanila na pinabayaan natin sila (They were really happy. No one complained that we neglected them)," Avisado said.
The President reminded Avisado to ready the financial support for LGUs amid reports of another approaching storm in the country.
Avisado assured the President about the government's preparedness. So far, he said, the government has P10.274 billion in the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (NDRRMF) that can be used to assist calamity areas in case of another weather disturbance.
Seventy-three died while over four million people were affected when typhoon Ulysses lashed across Luzon and Bicol region in mid-November. More than P12 billion worth of damage in infrastructure and agriculture were reported.
