COVID-19 cases breach 1-million mark

The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the country has reached the one-million mark on Monday, April 26.

The total number of COVID cases rose to 1,006,428 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 8,929 new cases.

The case bulletin of the DOH also showed 11,333 new recoveries and 70 new deaths.

With more than 11,000 new recoveries, total recoveries has reached 914,952.

The total deaths, on the other hand, rose to 16,853.

Of the 74,623 active cases, the DOH said, 96.4 were mild cases, 1.4 were asymptomatic, 1.0 percent were critical, 1.3 percent were severe and 0.87 percent were moderate.

The DOH said 23 duplicates were removed from the total case count as 18 of these were recoveries.

"In addition, one case was found to have tested negative and has been removed from the total case count. The case was a recovery," said DOH.

"Moreover, 27 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation," it added.

The Health department said two labs were not operational on April 24, 2021 while nine labs were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).
