BARMM Chief to back Sara should Davao mayor decides to pursue presidency next year

DAVAO CITY – Bangsamoro government chief minister Ahod Ebrahim has expressed support to Mayor Sara Duterte should she decide to run for president in the elections next year.

In a statement posted on the Bangsamoro Government’s Facebook page, Ebrahim said the Bangsamoro government pointed out that they will also support President Rodrigo Duterte’s choice of next leaders.

“We likewise reiterate our immense appreciation to President Duterte for recognizing the urgency and necessity of the postponement of the elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and consequently extending the transition period,” read the statement.

It also expressed their confidence on Sara’s ability to continue the legacy of peace and commitment to progress in Mindanao, especially in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

This year, there will be no Duterte running for a national post if the recent happening at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is to be believed.

The Presidential daughter and current Davao City Mayor is seeking reelection, similar with brothers Paolo in the House of Representatives and Sebastian as vice mayor of Davao City.

The President meanwhile announced his retirement from politics on Saturday, Oct. 2, after previously accepting the nomination of the ruling party, Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), to run as vice president in the 2022 elections.

He, instead, accompanied long-time aide, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, to file his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for vice president that same day.

During a chance meet-up with his supporters outside the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, the President was heard saying that his daughter will run with Go as the running mate.

Candidates have until November 15 to withdraw their candidacies and file for substitution.
