Social media post helps QC cops arrest 3 robbery suspects in Caloocan
A video posted on social media by a Quezon City resident helped operatives of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) arrest three robbery hold-up suspects in Caloocan City on Sunday, April 2.
Lt. Col. Vicente Bumalay Jr, QCPD Pasong Putik Station (PS 16) commander, identified the suspects as Patrick Alwin Santos, 23; Blasel Ben Vacaro, 22; and Jhonric Baran, 24, all residents of Caloocan City
According to the QCPD, the incident happened at around 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, while the victims, Sara Mae Abendan and Rhooell Menor, were walking along Neopolitan Belfast Avenue, near SM Fairview, in Barangay Pasong Putik Proper, Novaliches, QC.

The three suspects, who were on board a motorcycle, suddenly approached the victims and at knifepoint, declared the holdup and took Abendan’s personal belongings. A vlogger who happened to be in the area took a video of the suspects while they were fleeing using their getaway motorcycle and posted it on Facebook on Sunday, which went viral and helped the police identify and locate the three men. The PS 16 conducted a hot pursuit operation and arrested the suspects who voluntarily surrendered at Camarin Police Sub-Station 10, Caloocan City Police Station at around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Seized from the suspects were a bladed weapon and one red Rusi motorcycle. Vacaro, Santos, and Baran will be charged for robbery and will be referred to the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office, police said. “Nagpapasalamat ako sa QCitizens sa pagmamalasakit sa kanilang kapwa dahilan ng pagka-aresto ng mga suspeks. Dito rin naipakita ang tulong ng vlogging sa positibong paraan dahil nakatulong ito sa mga kapulisan para agad na marespodehan ang mga ganitong insidente at lubos na mapanatili ang kapayapaan sa lungsod Quezon (I thank the QCitizen for caring about their fellow men which led to the arrest of the suspects. This also showed how vlogging helps in a positive way as it allows the police to immediately respond to such incidents and fully maintain peace in Quezon City),” QCPD Director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said.
