PCO invites public: to join Electric Bill Challenge
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) has enjoined the public to join the Department of Energy (DOE)'s Electric Bill Challenge and win "fun prizes" by the end of April.
"Sumali na sa Electric Bill Challenge ng Department of Energy (DOE) at sama-sama tayong magtipid ng kuryente (Join the DOE's Electric Bill Challenge and let us conserve energy together)!" the post read.
Those who will take on the challenge must post on their social media account their electric bill for the past month of March.
Starting this April, challengers must start practicing the energy efficiency tips the DOE shared on its Facebook page.
After a month, they must compare their March and April electric bills, and compare the difference in the cost. They must explain how they achieved the lower cost by creating a detailed social media post.
Only those who tag the official DOE Facebook page in the said post will be considered official participants of the challenge.
According to the DOE, the five most energy-efficient homes will receive "fun prizes" by the end of the month.
To save electricity, the DOE has shared the following tips with the public:
* Outdoor activities with family and friends
* Having a regular wash schedule
* Use electric fans over air conditioners
* Checking the air conditioner for maintenance
* Using the oven only if needed
* Closing window blinds or drapes during the day to block the sun's greenhouse effect
Aside from this, the DOE also shared "energy efficient upgrades" to cut down on energy waste in homes and save money: * Air drying instead of using the dryer * Upgrading appliances to those with inverted technology * Improving roofing; consider clay or sheet metal to reflect heat * Consider investing in smart devices * Consider installation of solar panels
