LOOK: Disney's 'Moana' to get a live-action adaptation

And it looks like original voice actors Dwayne Johnson and Auli'i Cravalho will be part of it.

In 2016, moviegoers all over the world witnessed the birth of a Disney Princess through the animated feature “Moana.” It presented the studio’s first Polynesian princess, Moana, as she sailed beyond the reef in search of the demigod Maui to save her island from the threats of Te Kā, a volcanic demon. It was a box-office hit, earning Oscar nominations, and it looks like its journey is far from over. Together with Dwayne Johnson, the voice actor behind Maui, Disney announced that a live-action remake of the “Moana” is currently in development. In a video recorded in Hawaii, Dwayne said, “I’m deeply humbled and overcome with gratitude to bring the beautiful story of Moana to the live-action big screen. This story is my culture, and this story is emblematic of our people’s grace and warrior strength. I wear this culture proudly on my skin and in my soul, and this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reunite with Maui, inspired by the mana and spirit of my late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, is one that runs very deep for me.”
According to a report by [Deadline](https://deadline.com/2023/04/moana-live-action-movie-being-developed-by-disney-1235316563/), Dwayne will be producing the live-action reimagining of the 2016 animated feature with Seven Bucks Productions and Flynn Picture Co. While Auli’i Cravalho will also be part of the project as one of the executive producers, as per [NBC News](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/moana-live-action-remake-set-disney-rock-returning-rcna77986). “Moana has had such a profound impact on how we think of Disney princesses.
