Trendy Lola: Grandma in Tagaytay celebrates 89th birthday Gen Z style
CAVITE – A grandmother in Tagaytay City proved that age is just a number as she celebrated her 89th birthday sporting a Generation Z outfit on Sunday, April 2.
Francisca "Kikay" Umali posed for her birthday photos in her home wearing a plaid blazer, crimson top, sparkly skirt, and lace-up boots accessorized with gold layered necklaces and hoop earrings.

“After the pandemic, now lang ulit nakapag-celebrate ng bongga si Lola, at nakauwi na ulit ang mga anak niya from abroad, US and Sweden. At gusto ng mga anak ay groovy and with fashion pa din ang outfit ni Lola (It was only now that grandmother was able to have a grand celebration since the pandemic, and her children came home from abroad, US and Sweden. They wanted her to wear a groovy and fashionable outfit),” Umali’s grandchild, Aldrik Gohel, told the Manila Bulletin. Lola Kikay went viral in 2021 when she received an umbrella with dangling bills worth P10,000 on her 87th birthday.

Now one year shy of being a nonagenarian, Lola Kikay is in good health and still has a clear vision, without a need to use eyeglasses. She also likes wearing trendy clothes as long as they are comfortable. “'Yung mga hanging clothes, see-through mga ganyan. Basta ‘yung madali nya suotin (She wears hanging clothes, see-through clothing. As long as it is easy to wear),” Gohel shared. “Nakaka-inspire siya sa edad niya 89, makikita mo na gusto pa niya mabuhay nang matagal at kayang makipagsabayan sa henerasyon ngayon (She is inspiring at age 89, you can see that she wants to live longer and she can keep up with the present generation).”
