BACOLOD CITY – A businessman and former councilor was robbed of more than P1-million in jewelry and cash in his house in Barangay Cabahug, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Saturday, April 1.
Lt. Col. Gil John Despi, Cadiz police chief, said the 59-year-old victim left his house on March 31 for a family gathering. When they returned the following day, they discovered that some of their valuables have been scattered.

Despi said the victim also discovered that the robbers forcibly entered his house by detaching the jalousies of the window at the back. Stolen items were assorted jewelry worth P869,000, a bag worth P9,500, passport, travel documents, assorted identification cards, visa, passbook, seaman’s book, and P285,000 cash. Despi said it is possible that someone may have monitored that the house was empty on Friday. He also said that the robbers might not be from the barangay. Police have no lead yet on the identities of the perpetrators.
