Feast of St. Vincent Ferrer on April 5

Roman Catholics will observe on Wednesday, April 5, the life and works of Saint Vincent Ferrer, who is known as the greatest Dominican preacher. The Fraternity of St. Vincent Ferrer, a Pontifical religious institution, as well as several parishes and seminaries in many parts of the world including. the Philippines, will hold commemorative masses in honor of the well-loved Spanish priest. In the country, holy masses in his honor will be offered in Tanauan, Leyte; Bool District, Tagbilaran City; Jamindan and Casanayan, Capiz; Leganes, Iloilo City; General Trias, Cavite, and in Bonifacio, Misamis Occidental. At the St. Vincent Ferrer Parish in Bayambang, Pangasinan, a mass confession dubbed as “Kumpisalang Bayan para sa Lahat” will be held on April 7, Good Friday, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. A 51-meter-tall statue of their revered patron was unveiled in 2019 to mark the 600th death anniversary of St. Vincent. Made of steel frame and engineered bamboo panels, the Guinness Book of World Records recognized the massive structure as the tallest bamboo sculpture in the world. St. Vincent Ferrer was known for his intense devotion to Jesus, the Passion of Christ, and the Blessed Mother. He fasted without fail on Wednesdays and Fridays. He was admired for his great love and concern for the poor. He preached in Western Europe for 20 years and was able to convert thousands to the faith. Born in 1350 in Valencia, Spain, he died on April 5, 1419 and was canonized by Pope Calixtus III on June 3, 1455.
