Eastern Samar lensmen providing free graduation photos to 1,000 students
TACLOBAN CITY – Over 1,000 graduating students from elementary and high school are expected to get a free graduation pictorial from amateur and professional photographers from the Borongan Digital Photography Forum in Eastern Samar this school year.
Following a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the team behind "Project: Dagway" decided to once again provide free class portraits to those who cannot afford them, particularly in the remote barangays of the province. “We want to continue our advocacy in helping thru the lens,” Miguel Voloso, one of the administrators said in a statement. The pilot graduation pictorial for this year's project was held in Balangkayan, Eastern Samar last March 31, where around 68 graduating students from Cabay and adjacent elementary schools benefitted from the free photographs. The Project Dagway team, in partnership with the Department of Education-Eastern Samar, identified the student-beneficiaries, while Sinirangan Pageants, a group of professionals in various fields, assisted with the students' make-up for the photo shoot. The group is set to travel to Homonhon Island, Guiuan, where about 300 graduating students are awaiting the free graduation photos, as well as Maslog town, Hinolaso on the Dolores River, and Matarinao in Salcedo town in April. The BDPF is comprised of amateur and professional local photographers such as Abbie Odejerte, Annie Elecho, Sherwin Aquino, Lolot Baquilod, and Voloso. Some professional photographers, including Aaron Ebio, one of Metro Manila's top portrait photographers; Alren Beronio, a freelance photojournalist who contributes to some international media outlets, and Abdel Elecho, a surf photographer and former Senate closeup photographer, also joined the project. Dagway is Waray term for image, reflection, and light. In February 2020, over 800 students from Jipapad, Arteche, And Taft were photographed by the Project Dagway team.
