This was announced by UP President Angelo Jimenez after the board's four-hour deliberation.

Vistan will be the first UP Diliman chancellor from the College of Law.

He is also the current executive director of the UP BGC campus and a member of the Upsilon Sigma Phi fraternity.

Vistan will replace Fidel R. Nemenzo who was also among his competitors for the position along with UP archeology professor Victor Paz.

The UP alumnus both graduated cum laude in 1998 and 2003 with degrees in molecular biology and biotechnology and law, respectively.

While in law school, Vistan also worked as a court legal researcher and as acting branch clerk of court for Branch 227 of the Regional Trial Court in Quezon City.

Among his plans as UP Diliman chancellor are: nurturing students' public capability and providing them with long-term learning opportunities; elevating the quality of education through focusing on research initiatives; and creating programs through active participation from the campus units.
