“The last artist to enter as high with a first charting effort was Olivia Rodrigo, with Sour, which debuted at No. 1 on the June 5, 2021-dated chart,” Billboard reported.  Before this, Jimin’s “Set Me Free, Pt. 2” debuted at No. 30 on the April 1-dated Billboard Hot 100 chart.  “Face” earned 164,000 equivalent album units, which is “the second-largest debut week of 2023 after Wallen’s One Thing at a Time’s launch of 501,000 units.” Of the total, 124,000 were from album sales, emerging as “the third-biggest sales week of 2023 and the largest for a solo act this year.”  Streaming equivalent albums (SEA) totaled 13,500 or 19.51 million on-demand official streams of the album’s songs.  Track equivalent albums (TEA) units totaled 26,500, “the largest TEA figure for any album in four months.”  “The last time an album had a bigger TEA figure in a single week when Swift’s Midnights tallied 34,000 TEA units on the Nov. 19, 2022 chart, after she released seven new hot-selling remixes of ‘Anti-Hero’ (joining its two previously released versions — an original version and an instrumental),” according to Billboard.  The Billboard 200 chart is based on US figures measured in equivalent album units provided by Luminate.  “Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album,” added Billboard.  A total of 79 percent of the first-week sales of “Face” came from CDs and the 21 percent from digital album downloads.  Billboard added that “Jimin is the third member of seven-member South Korean pop group BTS to chart on the Billboard 200, following RM and J-Hope, who have each placed two albums on the chart. RM’s Indigo peaked at No. 3 in December 2022 and Mono. hit No. 26 in 2018. J-Hope’s Jack in the Box reached No. 17 in July 2022 and Hope World hit No. 38 in 2018.” The Billboard 200 chart figures came following Jimin’s successful album release.  In Korea, Jimin set new sales records for a solo artist.   Hanteo Chart reported that “Face” sold 1,454,223 copies in the first week of release from March 24 to 30, surpassing the record of first-week sales of 1.12 million copies set by trot singer Lim Young-woong’s “I’m Hero” album.  In addition, Jimin’s “Face” sold 1,021,532 copies on the first day of release on March 24, which also set a record as this was the first time that a solo artist sold one million copies of an album on the first day of release.  “Face” topped Hanteo’s weekly physical album chart for March 20 to 26 with 1,036,294 copies or a physical index record of 1,183,668.  The album also sold 225,000 copies in Japan based on the Oricon Chart, the highest for a solo artist this year.
