BTS' Jimin makes history as the first Korean solo artist to bag No. 1 spot on Billboard Hot 100

Grammy-nominated K-pop boy band BTS member Jimin made history by grabbing the No. 1 ranking on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.  His song “Like Crazy,” a track in his first solo album “Face,” debuted on top of the April 8-dated Hot 100 chart.  This made him the first Korean solo artist to bag the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 and the first member of BTS to achieve the feat.  BTS' Jimin (Twitter)

“Love u all,” Jimin posted on Instagram along with a photo of the Hot 100 chart.  [“Face” was released on March 24 and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.](https://mb.com.ph/2023/4/3/bts-jimin-s-solo-album-face-debuts-at-no-2-on-billboard-200)  The Hot 100 is based on “all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales data.”  According to Billboard, Jimin’s “Like Crazy” is the 1,148th No. 1 song on the Hot 100 history since 1958 and the 66th song to debut on top of the chart.  “Streams, airplay & sales: ‘Like Crazy’ sold 254,000 song downloads and CD singles combined and drew 10 million streams and 64,000 radio airplay audience impressions in its first week (March 24-30),” Billboard reported.  The sales for the track “is the highest in a single week since Taylor Swift’s ‘Anti-Hero’ sold 328,000 (Nov. 19, 2022), sparked by seven remixes released that tracking week.” In addition, “Like Crazy” debuted at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart, Jimin’s third song to lead the chart, and No. 35 on the Streaming Songs chart.  BTS have achieved six No. 1s on the Hot 100 including five which debuted on top of the chart.  “Jimin makes history as the first soloist to score a solo Hot 100 debut breaking out of a group that has also debuted at No. 1 on the chart,” Billboard added.  Korean rapper Psy’s “Gangnam Style” peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100 in 2012.   “BTS members solo on the Hot 100: Jimin scores not only the first Hot 100 No. 1 by a BTS member solo, but the first top 10, or even top 20, hit on the chart.
