2 arrested for selling registered SIM cards

Two individuals were arrested by members of the District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) of the Makati City Police for selling registered SIM cards in Barangay Poblacion, Makati City Sunday, April 2. The police identified the suspects as Jinxing Zhao, 29; and Cristobal Cacayurin Jr., 56. According to the police report, the authorities received a tip from a confidential informant saying that Zhao and Cacayurin are selling registered SIM cards with active GCash accounts. This prompted the police to conduct a buy-bust operation against the suspects which led to their arrest. Recovered from the suspects were 50 registered Globe prepaid sim cards and the boodle money. Zhao and Cacayurin are now facing charges for violating the Republic Act 11934 or the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Registration Act and the Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
