Pasig LGU holds cancer screening for women with disabilities
A free cancer screening activity for women and mothers with disabilities was held by the Pasig City local government on Saturday, April 29, at the Pasig City Hall Quadrangle, as part of it's inclusive initiatives for persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the city.
The activity, themed "Get Tested: Early Detection Can Save a Life," aimed to provide accessible services and raise awareness in regards to maternal reproductive health.

It was graced by City Councilor Quin Cruz, Dr. Rom Marcaida from the PCS, Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office (PDAO) Head Helen Carmona, Gender and Development (GAD) Office Head Rey Espina, League of PWDs President Karl Ravallo, and Children with Disabilities President Rommel Reyes. "Ang pangangalaga sa Kababihang Maykapansanan at Nanay ng mga batang Maykapansanan ay pangangalaga sa buong pamilya nito (Taking care of women with disabilities and mothers of children with disabilities is supporting their whole families)," said Cruz. "Kailangang mabigyan ng prioridad sa mga serbisyong may kinalaman sa kanilang maternal reproductive health (Services related to maternal reproductive health must be prioritized)," he added.

The activity offered breast and cervical cancer screenings to the participants via the mobile screening van of the PCS. According to the country report of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Information Center for 2023, cervical cancer is the second most frequent cancer among women between 5 and 44 years of age in the Philippines. "Current estimates indicate that every year 7,897 women are diagnosed with cerval cancer and 4,052 die from the disease," it stated. Breast cancer accounts for 31.4 percent of cancer cases for females of all ages in the Philippines in 2020, as per the Global Cancer Observatory (Globocan).
