Third-party delivery startup, Mober, earmarked P300 Million capex for 2023 as it switches its fleets from traditional to electric vehicles (EVs), a first in the industry, CEO Dennis Ng told Manila Bulletin.
The green strategy is also expected to boost the company's revenues from P155 Million in 2022 to P250 Million this year.
With the shift to EVs, Mober is setting a new standard for sustainable delivery practices and contributing to the country's efforts to combat climate change, he maintained.
When Ng founded Mober in 2015, the local startup pioneered an on-demand platform for cost-effective, same-day delivery service for SMEs, shoppers, and households.
In 2018, the company became a strong player in the third-party delivery service industry after SM-led logistics provider, 2GO Group, became an investor.
Despite the economic turmoil in the wake of the pandemic, Mober became the first logistics firm in the Philippines to use EVs in its fleet.
It provided an environment-friendly logistics option to big companies committed to achieving their net-zero goals.
Already, Mober has added 16 electric vans and four electric trucks to its traditional fleet.
By mid-2024, it will refleet around 180 of its gas-powered vans and trucks into electric vehicles.
"We will start developing our own system to monitor the carbon offset from our EV. Mober will work toward the goal of being top of mind provider of EV delivery provider," according to Ng.
Overall, “We aim to help more retail giants, fast moving consumer goods (FMCGs) and logistics companies decarbonize their fleets quickly."
"We also want to inspire other local startups to jumpstart their sustainability journey and contribute to achieving a greener economy,” he added. “We are proud to be the go-to green+tech logistics provider in the Philippines."
Mober partners with big-name clients in various industries, including Ikea, SM Appliance Center, Rockwell Land, Nespresso, and Red Ribbon Bakeshop.
Over the past year, Mober has expanded its services and inked a deal with global location technology, what3words, to ensure deliveries arrive at drop off points faster.
The accurate mapping technology helps the company save energy from missed or wrong addresses.
