Construction of new Antique provincial capitol underway

ILOILO CITY – After hurdling several stumbling blocks, the construction of a new government center for the province of Antique is finally underway.

ANTIQUE provincial government officials grace the groundbreaking of the new government center in the capital San Jose de Buenavista. (Antique PIO) Provincial government officials led by Gov. Rhodora “Dodod” Cadiao led Friday, April 28, the groundbreaking ceremony in the provincial capital of San Jose de Buenavista. The 6.4-hectare site in Barangay Badiang will house the new Antique Provincial Capitol that will replace the six-decades-old capitol. “In these 66 years, Antique expanded from a sleepy, agricultural province to the rising star of Western Visayas. It is only natural that the provincial government outgrows its home,” said Cadiao. “This government center will be a crowning achievement for the people of Antique,” added Cadiao. The new government center will house not only the new Antique Provincial Capitol but also the various offices of national government agencies. The construction of the new government center has a budget of over P1 billion. Also present during the groundbreaking were Antique Rep. AA Legarda and Gov. Edgar Denosta. The current Antique Provincial Capitol was constructed in 1957 during the time of Gov. Josue Cadiao, the incumbent governor’s father.
