ILOILO CITY – The provincial government has warned the people of non-existent tourist sites in Capiz being promoted in social media.

Several accounts of what seemed to be social media influencers were promoting what appeared to be pristine sites in Capiz earlier this week. In an account of Kurt Leuween M. Ubogan, the post claimed there is a “hidden paradise” in Roxas City, the provincial capital. The post had photos of a resort and waterfalls. Other Facebook accounts were also promoting other bogus tourist destinations across Capiz. Ordinary citizens called out these Facebook pages. The Capiz Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office headed by Al Tesoro lauded the vigilance of ordinary citizens and reminded social media pages to post with caution. “May we recommend to the account handlers of these handles/pages that instead of promoting made-up destinations, you guys can actually direct your efforts in promoting attractions that actually exist in Capiz,” the Capiz Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office said.
