The Caloocan City government announced on Friday, April 28, that its “Batang Kankaloo Kids’ Camp,” where children in the city with ages five to 12 may enjoy various activities and bond with their families, will once again be held at the Caloocan City Hall-South on Saturday, April 29.
Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan said the kids’ camp is an avenue to promote children’s physical and emotional well-being while also giving families the chance to spend valuable time together.
It was first held in 2022 after Malapitan took over as the city’s local chief executive.
"We saw the success of this project last year so we decided to continue the kids' camp this 2023. Pagkatapos ng mahabang panahon na limitado ang galaw natin dahil sa pandemya, mas nakita natin kung gaano kahalaga na magkaroon ng pagkakataon ang mga bata na makisalamuha sa kapwa nila bata at hindi lang sila nakatutok sa computer o gadget (After a long time when our movement was limited due to the pandemic, we really saw how important it is for kids to have the opportunity to socialize with their fellow children and not just focus on their computers or gadgets)," said Malapitan.
Gender and Development Resource and Coordination Office (GADRCO) Officer-in-charge Ms. Jan Christine Bagtas said various health and dental services, fun games, and other activities were organized for the participants who pre-registered for the event.
“Tuwing Kids’ Camp marami po tayong inihahandang mga aktibidad, mayroon tayong story telling activity, art workshops, inflatable playground, photo booth, face painting, bukod dito naghahanda rin tayo ng iba’t-ibang snacks, at higit sa lahat, mayroon tayong health at dental consultations, kung saan namamahagi tayo ng vitamins at oral health kits (For every Kids' Camp, we prepare many activities, we have story telling activities, art workshops, inflatable playground, photo booth, face painting, besides all these, we also prepare various snacks and we have health and dental consultations where we distribute vitamins and oral health kits),” Bagtas said.
Malapitan said that Covid-19 health protocols will strictly be observed to ensure the safety of the kids while emergency responders and an ambulance will also be deployed.
The local government said that the Batang Kankaloo Kids' Camp will be held twice a month for residents from North and South Caloocan.
