These cigarettes were drenched in water, crushed by a payloader, and disposed of at the sanitary landfill in Barangay Salaan here.
The transport of the destroyed goods from the warehouse will reportedly take up to five days due to their sheer volume.
Condemned items were 19,419 cases and 867 reams of smuggled cigarettes, majority of which were seized during an intelligence-driven operation in Sulu province in March.
The destruction activity was held in the presence of Mayor John Dalipe and representatives from the police, military, and other partner-agencies.
These cigarettes were seized for violating Republic Act 10863, the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act of 2016 in relation to Executive Order 245.
