Filipinas U17 team advances to second round of AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers
The Philippine women’s U17 football national team is barging into the second round of the 2024 AFC Women’s U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers following a 2-0 victory over Lebanon on Wednesday, April 26, at the GFA National Training Center in Dededo, Guam.
Bella Alamo fired a 68th minute strike and Nina Mathelus drilled in a 90th minute penalty as the Filipinas secured the top seed in Group G and ended their first round campaign with six points.
Mathelus emerged as the highest scorer for the Filipinas with a total of four goals after also completing a hat trick in the first game where the Philippines kicked off its campaign with a 3-1 victory over Guam
Also under the tutelage of seniors head coach Allen Stajcic, the Filipinas now gun for one of the four continental slots remaining in the second round where eight teams will be split into two groups.
