Dolly de Leon reveals Eugene Domingo once paid for son's schooling
"She never left even if she reached superstardom level already. She was always a friend."
This is how award-winning actress Dolly de Leon described her good friend, actress Eugene Domingo.
Dolly's friendship with Eugene was discussed in "Fast Talk With Boy Abunda." According to Dolly, Eugene was somebody she could run to in times of need, recalling a particular instance, wherein Eugene actually helped pay for her son's school tuition for three years. "Kasi Kuya Boy may time na wala na, walang-wala na talaga akong pambayad ng kuryente, napatigil yung anak ko sa pag-aaral dahil wala akong pambayad ng tuition. But a lot of friends came to support me. Uge is one of them,” she shared. Dolly added, "She never left even if she reached superstardom level already. She was always a friend. She was always, you know, Uge, as we know her.”
As to how they met, Dolly related, “Si Uge (Eugene) magkakilala kami niyan, bata pa kami. Teenagers pa kami magkasama kami sa UP sa Theater Arts. So barkada na kami niyan." They remain close to this day. "Ang laking tulong niya sa akin nito... nitong buong thing na nangyayari sa akin," she shared, relating to recognition she has been getting of late. "Kasi, kumbaga, dinaanan niya to, e, so alam niya kung paanong gagawin. Binigyan niya ako ng tips on… I know it sounds mababaw, pero ibinigay niya akong tips kung anong sapatos susuotin. ‘Magbaon ka Dolly ng flats (shoes), ganyan. Yung flats na puwede mong ilagay sa bag mo, para kung masakit na yung takong, magpalit ka ng flats.'"
Dolly made history as the first Filipino actress ever to be nominated at the Golden Globes and the British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) in a major acting category. The 53-year-old was cited for her role as Abegail in "Triangle of Sadness."
She won Best Supporting Sctress for the same film at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and Breakthrough Performance Award at the Middleburg Film Festival. She was also nominated for the same category and same film at Satellite Awards. Eugene seemingly reacted to Dolly's story via Instagram. She wrote: "The pay-it-forward concept tells us that we can make a difference in the loves of others and it glorifies random acts of kindness. It tells us that when someone is kind to us, it's a good idea to repay mankind several times over by doing good things for others." "ty google," she added along with an Instagram avatar.
