Olympic gold medallist Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo believed that Filipina athletes have the talent and skill to replicate her success as she rallies behind the national team which is set to compete in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia next month.

"Reach the summit, kaya niyo 'yan, thirst for more, thirst to learn weightlifting and dream high," Diaz told the media at Summit Water's Thirst for Gold virtual conference on Thursday. "When you do your best in training, [and] you do your best in preparation, you can reach your best in [the] competition. Para sakin, 'yung advice ko lang sa lahat ng kababaihan, try weightlifting, you can do it," she added. The Zamboangeña pride sent shockwaves back in 2021 when she won the Tokyo Olympics gold medal in the women's -55kgs event. She, however, will skip the Cambodia meet to focus on the 2023 Asian Weightlifting Championships in South Korea which serves as a qualifier for the Paris Olympics next year. Bannering the squad are Elreen Ando and fellow female lifters Vanessa Sarno, Angeline Colonia, Lovely Inan and Rosalinda Faustino. (*Mark Montejo, OJT)*
