CAVITE – A sick dog was found abandoned inside a plastic box on the side of a street in Barangay Salawag in Dasmariñas City on Monday, April 24.

Christian Bondoc, Education Officer of Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF), told the Manila Bulletin that the dog was discovered by a tricycle driver who took a photo and posted it on social media to appeal for help.

AKF responded to rescue the dog they named Daisy.

As seen in the photos, some parts of Daisy’s body are bald and covered with lesions. She was immediately taken to a partner veterinarian clinic where she is now being treated for severe bacterial infection with ehrlichiosis and extreme anemia.

“She looks like a breed dog actually, probably a Japanese Spitz,” Bondoc said.

“The dog is clearly sick and not good looking anymore that is why she was thrown away like garbage. Abandonment is a form of animal cruelty. It is a criminal offense, a violation of RA 8485 Animal Welfare Act.”

The AKF is now coordinating with authorities to trace Daisy’s owner.

“There are no witnesses of the actual dumping, but we are checking with the barangay CCTVs already so we can find out who did this to the dog and so we can file appropriate charges,” Bondoc stated.

“We’re reminding pet owners to be responsible and treat their pets as members of the family.”

At least a month of medical treatment is necessary for Daisy to recover fully. After that, she will be transferred to the AKF Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Tarlac and will later be put up for adoption.
