LOILO CITY – A 16-year-old female teen from Iloilo province was reportedly infected with the Omicron XBB 1.16 variant of Covid-19.
The Department of Health (DOH)-Region 6 and the Iloilo Provincial Health Office are still verifying what is believed to be the first case of this Covid variant in Iloilo.
“We don’t have the complete data. We are still verifying,” said Dr. Bea Camille Natalaray of DOH-6 on Wednesday, April 26. Dr. Rodney Labis of the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPPO) confirmed that the patient was from Iloilo which consists of 42 towns and a component city. However, Labis did not say from which town the patient was. Labis only disclosed that the patient is a 16-year-old female who was admitted to the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC), the DOH-6 run hospital in Iloilo City. He said that IPHO is still coordinating with the municipal health office of her municipality. Because of the presence of the new variant, the DOH-6 and IPHO have urged the public to wear face masks again and get their Covid-19 booster shots.
