1 dead, 2 hurt as Innova, jeep collide in Negros

BACOLOD CITY – A man died while two others were injured in a collision between a passenger jeepney and a Toyota Innova in Purok Biri, Barangay Salvacion, Murcia, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, April 25.

Killed in the accident was Samuel Olimpo of Barangay Alegria, Murcia. Injured were Kearl Saint Ong, 27, and Vira Tavorada, 24, residents of Bacolod City. Police Major Joeil Reclamado, Murcia police chief, said that Olimpo was driving a passenger jeepney on his way home when he allegedly dozed off. He swerved to the opposite lane and collided head-on with a Toyota Innova driven by Ong, Reclamado said. It took a few hours for rescuers to remove Olimpo from the driver’s seat as he was stuck due to the impact of the accident. He later died in a hospital, according to Reclamado. Reclamado said the jeepney had no passengers when the accident happened. The injured were brought to a hospital here, according to the police.
