The official showed she is adamant to see schoolchildren finish their schooling since Duterte believes this would pave the way for their success in the future and end the cycle of poverty that grips Filipino families. She visited Dominador Jison Memorial Elementary School in Silay City and M.G. Medalla Integrated School in Bacolod City to give advice to schoolchildren there. “Kailangan nating mag-aral nang mabuti para makapagtapos. Mag-aral nang mabuti para may trabaho (We need to study well to finish. Study well so you will get jobs),” she told the students at the Dominador Jison Memorial Elementary School. “Maraming klaseng trabaho ang kailangan ng ating mga komunidad. Kailangan lang magtapos tayo ng pag-aaral (Our communities need many kinds of jobs. All we need to do is finish our studies),” she added. At the M.G. Medalla Integrated School, the Vice President met with basic education and high school students to relay her message of how education can transform one’s living conditions and for them to become part of nation-building. The Vice President also underscored the significance of continuing education despite adolescent age challenges like teenage pregnancy. “Anong gagawin kung buntis na? Dapat itutuloy pa rin sa pag-aaral. Kung hindi nahihiya [ang] buntis pumasok, pwede pa rin. Basta huwag lang tumigil sa pag-aaral (What should you do if you get pregnant? You should continue studying. If the pregnant isn’t embarrass to go to school, she can. As long as she doesn’t stop studying),” she told the Grade 8 students. Officer-in-Charge Principal Herminio Remada Jr. informed that students who get pregnant may opt to have regular, distance, or alternative learning modes. Duterte also asked the school heads to implement blended learning during calamities, and the shifting of classes to lower class size to ensure focused learning among students. The two schools also received help from the Vice President in the form of laptops for teacher and sports balls for students. “Bukod sa pakikipag-usap sa mga kabataan, namigay din tayo ng mga bola para sa larong basketball, volleyball at soccer. Namahagi din tayo ng laptops para sa ating mga faculty members (Aside from talking with the youth, we also gave balls for the games of basketball, volleyball, and soccer. We also gave laptops to our faculty members),” she said in a Facebook post. The Vice President turned over 29 laptops to the elementary school while 47 units were given to the integrated school.
