BACOLOD CITY – A New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed in an encounter with the military in Escalante City, Negros Occidental.

The 303rd Infantry Brigade (IBde) identified the fatality as Armando Atoy, alias “Arnold” and “JunJun,” a resident of Barangay San Pablo, Manapla town, Negros Occidental. Atoy was killed in a gunbattle with the police and Army in Sitio Tabunoc, Barangay Libertad on Thursday, April 20. Two soldiers were wounded. Recovered from the encounter site were an M14 rifle, three M14 magazines, 20 live ammunition, a bandolier, three rifle grenades, three live grenade launcher ammunition, a camera, two commercial radios, a backpack, food supplies, subversive documents, and personal belongings. His remains were claimed by his parents assisted by the city government of Escalante and Barangay San Pablo officials, according to the Army.
