BUTUAN CITY – A magnitude-5.5 earthquake rocked Agusan del Norte on Monday afternoon, April 24.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the earthquake was registered at 5:32 p.m.
The epicenter was 21 kilometers (kms) northwest of Nasipit town, Agusan del Norte.
The tremor had a depth of 35 kms, Phivolcs said.
Phivolcs instruments detected the quake at Intensity IV in Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte and Intensity II in Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.
Aftershocks are expected and the Agusan del Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) has been mobilized to check on the situation of residents, particularly in coastal areas in Nasipit.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Caraga and Agusan del Norte PDRRMC have not reported any damage or injury.
