Two wanted men were collared by the police after a brief chase in Quezon City on Sunday, April 23.
Police identified the suspects as Noel Cueco who was charged for grave threats, violations of Republic Act (RA) 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, RA 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and physical injuries; and Noel William, wanted for violation of RA 7610 or Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Bagong Silangan Station (PS 13) operatives went to Barangay Payatas in the city to serve the warrants of arrest against them at around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The two suspects tried to escape after they sensed the presence of the police in the area. They fled towards Langka Street on board a pick-up van.
Members of the PS 13 and Tactical Motorized Unit (TMRU) chased the suspects and immediately arrested William. They recovered a knife from him.
Meanwhile, Cuesco pulled out a gun and fired at the operatives before driving towards Mutya Street. A bullet hit a tricycle driver in the right leg.
Authorities cornered Cuesco on Motorola St. in Brgy. Commonwealth.
Recovered from him were one .45-caliber firearm with one live ammunition, three magazines with six live ammunition, and drug paraphernalia.
The wounded tricycle driver was given immediate medical attention.
Police said Cueco was previously convicted for murder and had already served his 17-year sentence at the Maximum Security Compound of New Bilibid Prison, Muntinlupa City.
“Pinapaalalahanan ko ang mga may bahid ang pangalan sa batas na kapag kayo ay hinahanap ng kapulisan para panagutan ang mga krimen na inyong ginawa ay sumuko na lang po kayo nang maayos para hindi na maulit ang ganitong insidente (I am reminding those who are facing cases that when the police are looking for you to answer for the crimes you have committed, just surrender properly so that this kind of incident does not happen again),” QCPD director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said.
