'Students are fainting': Guanzon prods gov't to solve 20-hour Occidental Mindoro blackouts
Rowena Guanzon
P3PWD Party-list nominee Rowena Guanzon is calling on the government to do something--anything--to address the 20-hour blackouts besetting Occidental Mindoro. For Guanzon, it's the schoolchildren's welfare that's at stake, since the outages are occurring in the middle of summer. "20 hours na walang electricity in Mindoro ? Hinimatay na mga [estudyante] sa [init] (20-hour brownouts in Mindoro? Students are fainting from the heat)," she tweeted over the weekend. "Where the hell is the government?" added the outspoken Guanzon. Reports said that residents of Occidental Mindoro have been pestered by daily 20-hour blackouts for over a month now. The Occidental Mindoro Consolidated Power Corp. (Omeco) has not been able to supply enough power to its service area. Guanzon, a former Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner, has been a consistent critic of the Marcos administration.
