LTO: Three-year registration validity now covers new motorcycles 200cc and below
The validity of the registration of new motorcycles were extended to three years, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced on Sunday, April 23.
LTO chief JayArt Tugade said the move is aimed at fast-track the processing and provide further convenience to the public, especially that motorcycles are now becoming the popular and convenient way of transportation.
The new initiative is effective on May 15 this year.
Before, the three-year registration validity only covers motorcycles with an engine displacement of 201cc and above, citing road worthiness issue.
However, based on studies conducted, Tugade decided to give a similar three--year validity of vehicle registration even for motorcycles with an engine displacement of 200cc and below.
“We do not see any problem on the road worthiness of the motorcycles in three years since these are brand new. We believe that this initiative would be of big help to a number of riders, especially those using motorcycles for as means of living,” said Tugade.
"It is hereby directed that initial registration of brand new motorcycles with engine displacement of 200cc and below shall be valid for three years. It is understood that the MVUC (motor vehicle user's charge) to be collected during the initial registration shall likewise be adjusted to cover the corresponding registration validity period," he added.
Based on the LTO data, an estimated two million new registrations for motorcycles with engine displacement of 200cc and below will benefit from this new policy this year.
