More than 2,000 devotees attended the recent two-day Luzon Divine Mercy Congress in Malolos, Bulacan.
World Apostolic Congress on Mercy (WACOM) Asia Coordinator Balanga Bishop Ruperto C. Santos expressed his gratitude to the faithful from different parts of the country who took time out to attend the gathering including a group from the United States.
“I am happy that many responded to the call of our Lord. Because of His Divine Mercy, we were all united. May we all benefit from the sharing that were given as we embody God’s Divine Mercy in our lives,” Bishop Santos said over Radio Veritas.
For his part, Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula stressed that God’s Divine Mercy is the way towards unity and solidarity with others and the Catholic Church.
“To the selfishness of indifference, mercy orients us to commune with each other. To the short-sightedness of self-satisfaction, mercy urges us to share the good news to satisfy others to the brim as well,” His Eminence said.
Malolos Bishop Dennis Villarojo, meanwhile, said that God’s Divine Mercy is a call to love as well as to forgive.
“The path of peace is not the subjugation of one’s enemies, but it is rendering justice so that no one may be made an enemy of anyone. This Congress on Mercy reminds us over and over again that we are loved, and because we are loved, may we learn to love and to forgive,” Bishop Villarojo said over the faith-based station.
Papal Nuncio Archbishop Charles John Brown also attended the event as well as other Church leaders and representatives of religious and lay groups.
An initiative of the Divine Mercy Apostolate Philippines, the gathering was led by WACOM Asia Secretary General Fr. Prospero Tenorio.
