20,000 Muslim faithful celebrate Ramadan at Grand Mosque in Marawi

MARAWI CITY – About 20,000 Muslim faithful from Lanao del Sur gathered at the Grand Mosque here to celebrate Eid’l Fitr or the end of Ramadan on Saturday, April 22.

Grand Mosque chairperson Saidamen Pangarungan was elated that many Muslim faithful attended this year’s Eid. "We are thankful to Allah that we are able to hold this Eid'l Fitr," Pangarungan said. Pangarunan prayed that the country recover from the pandemic. He also prayed for support for programs implemented by the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office Deputy Director for Operations Police Lt. Col. Juanito Jamis said at least 100 policemen were deployed to secure the mosque. No untoward incident was reported during Eid here, he said. Muslim faithful were happy that they were able to visit and say their Eid prayers at the Grand Mosque. Fatima Zohra Hadjiabdul Malic, a faithful from the municipality of Marantao in Lanao del Sur, said: “It was heartwarming to be able to pray here during this time.” Malic said she prayed for good health, realization of her wishes, and forgiveness of her sins.
