The City of Marikina, led by Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro, is one with the Muslim community in holding this sacred occasion in the highest regard, Rep. Teodoro said. She assured the Muslim community in the city of the local government’s support as they celebrate Ramadan and other traditional activities and faith-based programs in the city. Free balloons were also handed out to the delight of children at the park prior and after the prayers. Some groups also hosted lunches for their fellow community members after participating in the month-long fasting for Ramadan. The Salaam police, a unit of the Marikina City Police Station (CPS) led by Staff Sgt. Mohammad Amir Saddaramil, provided police protection and assistance during the event. The Salaam police serves as a bridge connecting the Muslim community with the Marikina CPS through, for example, conducting community outreach programs and activities. On Friday, April 21, the Marikina Muslim community also visited and prayed at the Islamic Mosque located at Singkamas Street, Barangay Tumana, in anticipation of the occasion. The Bangsamoro Darul-Ifta’ in the country declared April 22 as Eid’l Fitr or the “Feast of Breaking the Fast” to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan, which began on March 23. April 21 was declared a holiday by the national government in observance of the occasion.
