CEBU CITY – A former barangay councilor was gunned down by motorcycle-riding assailants in Barangay Baliwagan, Balamban town, Cebu early Saturday morning, April 22.
Alfonso Jun Boot Jr. died on the spot due to bullet wounds.
The victim’s wife told police that her husband left their house past 5 a.m. to buy feed for their chicken.
While the victim was driving, two men on motorcycle drove near him and opened fire.
Police are still gathering possible footage of security cameras in the area to possibly identify the assailants.
Police said the victim’s wife has some persons in mind who could be behind the killing.
The wife is not discounting the possibility that politics had something to do with the killing as her husband was planning to run for barangay captain in their place in the upcoming elections.
The victim was a former No.1 councilor in the barangay, police said.
